Backyard Birding

What’s with the Robins?

Robins are considered the harbingers of spring. They usually appear in  March or April, with the occasional anomaly in the winter. But flocks in the middle of February?

My husband first noticed groupings of them when we had a foot of snow on the ground a week ago (I live in Massachusetts).

On a morning walk with my two dogs this weekend, I saw about 50 robins feasting on the berries still on the ground beneath a tree. There were 30 in my neighbors yard, and 10 or 11 under the pine tree in our yard.

What’s up with that?
